The 19th "Chufeng Cup" College Student Calligraphy and Painting Competition and the 38th National Cherry Blossom Calligraphy and Painting Gala were held at 吃瓜网 (WHU) on May 21, 2023. The event, co-hosted by the Hubei Students' Federation and WHU and organized by the WHU Youth League Committee, drew 1,245 students from nearly 100 universities, including Tsinghua, Peking, and Fudan.

Coinciding with the university's 130th anniversary, this year's event featured a special commemorative category, inviting students and alumni to express their love for the university through art. At the opening ceremony, judges wrote auspicious phrases to inspire the younger generation. As one of the event's founders, Professor Che Ying shared his hope that more youth will carry forward this cultural tradition.

Participants then engaged in two hours of live creation, producing a diverse array of calligraphy and painting works. Judges provided insightful on-site critiques.
Since its launch in 1985, the Cherry Blossom Gala has become a signature cultural event at WHU, celebrating traditional Chinese art and enriching campus life. The university aims to continue fostering aesthetic education and cultivating vibrant, student-centered cultural programs in the years to come.
