This deciduous small tree or shrub ranges in height from 3-10 meters. Its branches droop like whips. The flowers are pink, in clusters of 2-5, and measure 2-2.5 cm across. The calyces are smooth and hairless. The petals are multilayered. The leaves are lanceolate with sharp, dense double serrations. The fruit is ovoid and turns black when ripe.
